In Downtown Hollywood This October, the Best Table Is on a Wednesday

What's the easiest way to try the newest restaurant on Harrison Street before Halloween weekend fills downtown Hollywood? Book a Wednesday, Thursday or Sunday at 5 p.m. Common Room is at 2032 Harrison St. and celebrated its grand opening on Thursday, Sept. 24. It's taking part in the City of Hollywood's Dine Out Hollywood promotion with a $50 three-course menu. The menu has a time window printed on it, and that window doesn't touch the two biggest nights downtown this month.

Downtown Hollywood is running three things in October 2026. The weeknight dining deals and the weekend street events barely overlap, so it pays to plan for both.

When Where Cost
Dine Out Hollywood Oct. 1–31; each restaurant sets its own hours Participating restaurants citywide Prix-fixe menus, priced by each restaurant
Common Room's Dine Out menu Sunday–Thursday, 5–7 p.m. 2032 Harrison St. $50 per person
Boo Bash Friday, Oct. 23, 5–9 p.m. ArtsPark at Young Circle Free
Hollyweird Halloween Saturday, Oct. 24, 6 p.m.–2 a.m. Hollywood Blvd. between 19th and 20th avenues Free admission

A $50 Menu That Runs Three Nights a Week

Dine Out Hollywood runs October 1 through 31. It's a free promotion for restaurants, which create their own three-course prix-fixe menus and decide when during the month to offer them. Because each restaurant writes its own rules, two Dine Out menus a block apart can work very differently.

Common Room's menu is printed "Sunday–Thursday, 5PM–7PM." The restaurant's regular hours are Wednesday and Thursday 5 to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday 5 to 11 p.m., and Sunday 5 to 10 p.m. It's closed Monday and Tuesday. Put those together and the $50 menu is actually available on Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, two hours each evening.

Today is Monday, Oct. 5, so 11 of those evenings are left this month:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 7 and Thursday, Oct. 8
  • Sunday, Oct. 11
  • Wednesday, Oct. 14 and Thursday, Oct. 15
  • Sunday, Oct. 18
  • Wednesday, Oct. 21 and Thursday, Oct. 22
  • Sunday, Oct. 25
  • Wednesday, Oct. 28 and Thursday, Oct. 29

Thursday, Oct. 22 is the night before Boo Bash. Sunday, Oct. 25 is the evening after Hollyweird. Oct. 31 falls on a Saturday, outside the window.

The menu starts with a choice of starter, including the "A" green salad with avocado, apple, arugula, pickled red onion and Marcona almonds, or crispy Brussels sprouts with garlic, soy glaze and chef's chili crunch. The yellowfin tuna tartare with yuzu kosho costs $5 extra. If you're ordering from the regular menu, the restaurant lists a lobster roll with salmon roe, chicken and caviar, a prime-rib French dip, spicy rigatoni, a Wagyu burger and southern fried chicken.

Who's Behind the New Name on Harrison Street

Common Room comes from BOL Hospitality Group, founded by Eric Douglas and Hai Nguyen. Executive chef Tanya Evans developed the food program. The restaurant moved into the space that used to be Hotsy Totsy Bar & Grill. It was reported open by July 20. The Sept. 24 event was a grand-opening celebration after a summer of service, so it wasn't the first night.

It also stands out among this year's downtown openings. In the Sun Sentinel's summer and fall restaurant coverage, Common Room was the only Downtown Hollywood opening between June and October. For anyone who has been waiting to try it, Dine Out is a $50 way in.

The Rest of the Dine Out List on the Boulevard

Several other participants are within a short walk of Young Circle, and their menus follow different rules:

  1. The Greek Joint, 1925 Hollywood Blvd., at $45 per person.
  2. Villa Romana, 1909 Hollywood Blvd., with a $30 lunch menu. A 20% gratuity and 7% tax are added.
  3. The Food Corner, 939 N. Federal Highway, at $35 for lunch and dinner.
  4. Twin Peaks, 1903 Hollywood Blvd., across from Young Circle. It filed a Dine Out menu, but no price was legible in the City's version.

Villa Romana and The Greek Joint are in the 1900 block of Hollywood Boulevard, the same stretch Hollyweird occupies between 19th and 20th avenues. On Oct. 24 their front doors will be inside the party. For a quieter meal there, pick another day. Villa Romana's lunch menu is the cheapest Dine Out option downtown, and lunch is the one time of day the weekend crowd doesn't compete for.

The City's online roster of participants didn't load completely when we checked. Other downtown restaurants may have joined, so check the City's Dine Out page before you book.

Friday Belongs to Young Circle

Boo Bash is on Friday, Oct. 23, at ArtsPark at Young Circle, 1 Young Circle. Music and kids' activities start at 5 p.m., followed by a costume fashion show at 7 and a movie at 8. Admission is free, and food is sold on site.

The City points drivers to two of its garages, Radius Parking Garage at 250 N. 19th Ave. and Van Buren Garage at 251 S. 20th Ave., at standard rates. The City's August newsletter also lists University Station as a 24/7 garage, along with the Taylor Street and Polk/Tyler lots.

Friday is also a night when The Brooklyn Room, the hidden room behind Common Room, is open.

The Room Behind the Bookcase

The Brooklyn Room opens Thursday through Saturday, 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., and the Sun Sentinel reported in late August that more nights were expected. Getting in has more steps than most downtown bars:

  • Weekly invitation links let guests request a reservation.
  • A manager gives final approval based on dress code, party size and availability.
  • A reservation doesn't guarantee entry.
  • According to the same report, regulars at BOL venues may be more likely to receive an invitation.

The August account puts the entrance at a bookcase door in the restaurant hallway. It describes the cocktails as Brooklyn-inspired, with old-school hip-hop and jazz playing. The July opening announcement described access through the alley behind the restaurant instead. The newer bookcase description is the one to plan around.

Being a regular helps your odds, and Dine Out is the cheapest way to become one. A few Wednesday or Thursday dinners at the 5 p.m. seating this month could make a weekend invitation more likely. Thursday is the one night when both the $50 menu and the speakeasy are open, three hours apart.

Saturday Belongs to the Boulevard

Hollyweird Halloween takes over Hollywood Boulevard between 19th and 20th avenues on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Admission is free. The event has adult and kids' costume contests, with more than $10,000 in prizes. The City called its 2018 edition the fourth annual, which puts the event's roots in the mid-2010s.

Before Saturday, check the official site for the following:

  • Start time. The main City listing says 6 p.m. The Boo Bash listing describes the adult block party as 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. The early hours may be the family portion, but neither listing says so.
  • Stages and contest rules. The festival site mentions three live-music stages. Its contest schedule graphic is labeled 2024, and the page carrying it dates from 2021.
  • Parking prices. The event's location page lists $1.50-an-hour meters and $10 flat-rate garages, but that page dates from 2021.
  • Street closures. As of today, we couldn't find a 2026 closure map from the City or the event.

If you plan to enter the costume contest, you'll need the current rules, so read them on the official site the week of the event.

By Sunday the boulevard has cleared. At 5 p.m. on Oct. 25, Common Room's $50 menu is back on the table for one of its last three runs of the month.
