Before you pack your bags and head for WPB, however, it’s best to find out what living in this popular city is all about.

Here are important things to keep in mind.

Education is tops

As part of the School District of Palm Beach County, many of the learning institutions are the country’s best. Two public schools and three private schools are regionally and nationally recognized. The highly-rated South University, Palm Atlantic Beach University, Palm Beach State College, Southeastern College, and the Academy for Nursing & Health Occupations are here.

Major Florida cities are nearby

Locals can escape to weekend destinations like Lake Okeechobee, Pompano Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami. They can attend festivals, art fairs, go shopping, fishing, bird watching, strolling, shopping, and do other fun things in these enchanting getaways.

 

The job market is big

Jobs are easy to come by. Florida Crystals, US Sugar, Cheney Brothers, and Pratt & Whitney, provide steady jobs. Healthcare workers are employed at the Cancer Center of South Florida, JFK Medical Center-North Campus and St. Mary’s Medical Center.  Over 1.6 million square feet of high-end projects are on the drawing board.

There’s no income tax

People are drawn here because Florida has no income tax.  Consumption tax rate is a mere 6%. Average property tax is very low at 1.31%.

The sun shines the whole year round, so the outdoors beckon regardless of the season. Beaches, parks, museums, shopping malls, and others are top attractions. Highly acclaimed Delray Beach is loaded with fun activities:  garden walks, museum hopping,  live animal exhibits, etc. Lake Trail, a.k.a. The Trail of Conspicuous Consumption is close to the water.  Jog, stroll, bike, and run while enjoying scenic views. This serene, safe, and long trail has a fantastic pier at the end.

You won’t run out of unique restaurants to dine in

Enjoy local flavors at Broiled Oyster Scampi or Rock Shrimp Bang Bang at Avocado Grill. Dig into Irish specialties at  O’Shea’s Irish Pub. Go Italian at Il Bellagio and La Sirena Casa Fondata.  Savor Greek cuisine at Souvlaki Grill. .Make it vegetarian at Darbster.

There’s an Antique Row

Antique lovers can choose from a selection of 17th to 20th century pieces, period deco, retro furniture, fine, decorative arts, and more. Respected magazines ranked Antique Row fourth in their  best shopping in the US list.  The world’s top interior designers go here for inspiration.

It’s easy to get from place to place 

Tour the city for free via the West Palm Beach Trolley.  Shuttle from one tourist destination to another in a Water Taxi.   The Palm Tran makes commuting between West Palm Beach and the rest of South Florida cities easy.
